Experimenting with focal B&W.

Experimenting with focal B&W. Just using Picasa, which is still my fave program for its simplicity. I have Photoshop Elements 11 but it is so vast and time consuming, takes up a lot of disk space too.  This was shot on a recent hike. One lone bloom among a sea of green.

  1. Huh, that was done on Picasa alone.  Wow, very nice.  I need to play around with it more.  I've been using Luminance HDR, Adobe Lightroom 4.4 mainly.  I also have Picasa and GIMP installed.  Haven't done a lot with either of them, but now I'm going to have to look into it.

  2. You should. My use of it has improved with time as I have grown to understand more (accidentally) about the editing process. I am a hands on kind of person so learning a method is not as effective as just trying them all out. I know it is all about layering when it cones to editing but Photoshop has too many intricate steps that are easy to forget unless one uses it ALL the time. It is a great graphics editor though. I experiment a lot with Picasa. Hope it goes well for you!

  3. Cheryl KP, I'll have to use it.  I just fixed my computer recently.  One computer would run one software, one would run the other, it was a nightmare.  Now I have Windows installer fixed and everything is on one computer and two monitors like it should be.

  4. That's good Askewed View Photographic Arts photos by Keith A. Russell . Glad you got it aced.  I am having trouble with disk space on mine and discovering it is due to the way Picasa is storing my photos. Now I have to download them to a file then import to the editor instead of directly there.  I am slowly moving all my old photos to an external hard drive to clear some up.  I really do a lot of editing.

  5. Yes, I understand Paul L A lot of people use Lightroom but I know my laptop won't take any more programs at this point.  I love Picasa because it is reliable and it also goes easily to G+.  In Photoshop it was more convoluted to try and send photos to the site.  I love cropping because it gives a scale I can see more easily as well as auto suggesting crops. It is often very much on the right track too! I actually have learned from the program!

  6. Nice photograph to highlight the focal B&W in Picasa'Cheryl KP

I have been using that program for about 8 months now.  It is very impressive editing tool.

I like to use it as a "quick look" for editing ideas I have for an image.  A lot of times I end up using it to create the finished work.

    Nice work!
