At Night The World's Biggest Ship Leaves Hamburg (August 2015)

At Night The World's Biggest Ship Leaves Hamburg (August 2015) 395 meters long and a beam of 60 meters. Capacity of 19,224 TEU. The MSC Zoe is about 60 meters longer than the World's largest aircraft carrier and 50 meters longer than the biggest cruise ship. Fully loaded she can carry up to 190 million iPads. She left at around 09.20 pm on August 03, 2015, after she had been christened in Hamburg the day before. It seems unlikely that the Port of Hamburg will see her all too often, given its cacacity restraints. And I guess, the heaviliy disputed plans for the Elbe deepening will not change much. The MSC Zoe got app. 5,000 loaded container boxes on board in Hamburg (according to press reports).  #hamburg   #container   #containershipping   #shipping   #shipphotography

Hamburg Welcomes 'MSC Zoe' (Hamburg, August 2015)

Hamburg Welcomes 'MSC Zoe' (Hamburg, August 2015) The World's largest containership will be christened in Hamburg on August 02, 2015. The ship was constructed by South Korean Daewoo Shipbuilding and has a capacity of about 19,200 TEU (Twenty Feet Equivalent Units). It is around 400 meters long with a beam of 60 meters (shipping English for 'width'). The ship's diesel engine has app. 84,000 horsepowers and was constructed by MAN, one of Germany's largest engineering companies. The ship will be operated with a crew of 35 by Mediterranean Shipping Company ('MSC'). MSC, an Italian shipping company (with legal HQ in Switzerland) is currently the second largest container shipping company. The ship, however,  is actually owned by a Chinese leasing company. MSC Zoe is only marginally larger than the former No. 1, the Chinese CSCL Globe (which came to Hamburg on her maiden voyage in January, 2015). And even larger ships will follow shortly. #hamburg   #shipp...
