The "Repsold" and the Yachts Parade -- The 826th 'Hamburg Port Anniversary' (May 2015)

The "Repsold" and the Yachts Parade -- The 826th 'Hamburg Port Anniversary' (May 2015) It's the world's greatest annual port festival and a big three-days party on and off the water. Activities include the yachts and other ship parades, a tugboat  ballet, lots of open ship opportunities, on-shore entertainment and so on.   The port anniversary dates back in legend to Emperor Frederick Barbarossa, who issued a charter to Hamburg merchants on 7 May 1189, granting freedom from customs duties for ships sailing the Elbe river from Hamburg to the North Sea. Large Containerships at Hamburg's Container Terminal 'Tollerort' (Hamburg, May 2015)

Large Containerships at Hamburg's Container Terminal 'Tollerort' (Hamburg, May 2015) First in line is the 'YM Ubiquity', a 8,200 TEU vessel constructed in 2012 and operated by Taiwanese based Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp. The other one is the even larger 'COSCO Belgium', a 13,400 TEU ship constructed in 2013 and operated by Peking based China Overseas Shipping Company. At the time I took the pictures the YM Ubiquity was ready to go while the COSCO Belgium had just arrived. #hamburg   #hamburgphotography   #containerships   #shipping   #ship   #maritime   #ports
