Kids On The Streets Of Palmeira (Sal - Cape Verde, January 2016)

Kids On The Streets Of Palmeira (Sal - Cape Verde, January 2016) Palmeira (population of around 500) is a rather small city. Actually more like a village than a city. It is also the location of the major commercial port of the Island of Sal. It is not really an ugly city but it has some rather shabby looking areas. There is a small container terminal and a Shell oil terminal. There is also a market hall, a food store and some pubs and restaurants as you would expect in any port city of the world. And some tourist gift shops, of course. The port is essential for Sal, as almost all kind of commodities and goods including fuel, food, tourism related stuff etc. have to be imported. So, if you prefer fresh fruits, yoghurt, cereals or what have you for your healthy breakfast at the all-inclusive five stars beach resort, all these goods must pass through the port of Palmeira. A local guy told me that people working as staff members in hotels and beach resorts earn around US$ 200 per month. So...

Men's Public Toilet Poetry (Hamburg, October 2015) (This one is linked to my homepage. So please click on the photo...) #hamburg   #poetry   #poetryblogs   #story   #photosandstories   Originally shared by Guido Billstein Ok, I was pissed-off the other day. Have forgotten the reason why, was just pissed. So, I went to a local Hamburg Pub at night. Hoping to meet someone I could talk to. Did not happen. Had some drinks. Had some food. Came the time I went for a piss. On the… http://guidobillstein.com/2015/10/09/mens-public-toilet-poetry-english/

I WILL EAT YOU (Hamburg, August 2015)

I WILL EAT YOU (Hamburg, August 2015) Most artificial animals on the 'Hamburger Dom', the city's biggest fun fair event, are harmless. Some of them clearly are not. This photo seems to be the last picture of a poor bastard, before he was eaten by the very Dragon he photographed. All what was left of the incident was the guy's camera. According to Police investigations, for some time the Dragon had not been fed properly by the fun ride's management (which was unavailable for comment).  So it seems that the Dragon finally just got a bit hungry... #hamburg   #hamburgerdom   #photosandstories

Hamburg Welcomes 'MSC Zoe' (Hamburg, August 2015)

Hamburg Welcomes 'MSC Zoe' (Hamburg, August 2015) The World's largest containership will be christened in Hamburg on August 02, 2015. The ship was constructed by South Korean Daewoo Shipbuilding and has a capacity of about 19,200 TEU (Twenty Feet Equivalent Units). It is around 400 meters long with a beam of 60 meters (shipping English for 'width'). The ship's diesel engine has app. 84,000 horsepowers and was constructed by MAN, one of Germany's largest engineering companies. The ship will be operated with a crew of 35 by Mediterranean Shipping Company ('MSC'). MSC, an Italian shipping company (with legal HQ in Switzerland) is currently the second largest container shipping company. The ship, however,  is actually owned by a Chinese leasing company. MSC Zoe is only marginally larger than the former No. 1, the Chinese CSCL Globe (which came to Hamburg on her maiden voyage in January, 2015). And even larger ships will follow shortly. #hamburg   #shipp...

The Candle and a Castle (Kronberg im Taunus, July 2015)

The Candle and a Castle (Kronberg im Taunus, July 2015) Kronberg Castle was built at around 1220 and served as home for the local knights. It became quite famous in 1389 when the knights of Kronberg declared war on the much bigger city of Frankfurt close-by. In the Battle of Eschborn the greater knights force from Frankfurt surprisingly was defeated by the smaller Kronberg army (with a little help from its friends). For a long time this defeat was perceived by the Frankfurters as a big shame. The story is told in Kronberg that during battle one of the knights of Kronberg lost his horse, and because he did not manage to get a replacement horse, he had to return to battle on a donkey. Legend has it that it was the unearthy noise the donkey made in battle that made the Frankfurt army run... About the history of the Candle less is known. Most likely it was manufactured in an unknown production facility somewhere in South East Asia, followed by transport in a 40 feet container box by ship t...
