Resharing from my personal photography G+ collection for the Dilettante Photography Community

Resharing from my personal photography G+ collection for the Dilettante Photography Community The Bund, Shanghai (Bright Lights of Pudong) Originally shared by Nisah Cheatham It had been taking all day, but I wasn't going to miss this sight. So, after working from the hotel room and hoping for a break, I told my co-worker we were going and we grabbed an umbrella. After about 30-40 minutes on the subway, we emerged to a light drizzle, and by the time we had walked the couple of blocks to the river.... it had stopped raining altogether. • The rest of the evening was rain free and the first hour or so was practically crowd-free. _________________________________________________ Sony a7RII + Sony 28mm 1/30 • f/4.0 • ISO3200 Single shot edited in Lightroom only

Chicago River Evening Sony a7RII + Sony 28mm f/2.0 May 2017 Originally shared by Nisah Cheatham Chicago River Evening Right behind the East Bank Club, the kayaking trips are being organized. This is definitely a less busy part of the Chicago River away from much of the typical boat traffic. _______________________________________________ Sony a7RII + Sony 28mm f/2.0 Edited in Lightroom & TopazLabs (DeNoise, Details)

Sony a7RII FE 24-240mm F3.5-6.3 OSS @ 82.0 mm ƒ/11.0, 1/40 sec, ISO100 As far as processing - Lightroom for exposure, bring up the shadows, add a white vignette, and mess with the tonality a bit. http://photos.nisah.net/featured/haystack-rock-nisah-cheatham.html Originally shared by Nisah Cheatham Haystack Rock, Cannon Beach, Oregon This rock is a stunner! It was plenty crowded even though it was such a gray day. But I waited it out to get my shot. I wanted people in the shot, but also that clear view of Haystack . Reshare for the Dilettante Photography community Originally shared by Nisah Cheatham The UNESCO World Heritage Classical Gardens of Suzhou are a set of gardens around the city each with their own distinct flavor. I only had a chance to visit two of them, but the difference was interesting. While smaller, the Lion Forest Garden has a neat vibe. Tons of rock sculptures and interior courtyards leading to entire other parts of the garden. As I was exploring, I came upon this scene. A couple taking in the courtyard and rock sculpture as seen through this portal-like doorway. The light wasn't the best so it took me a while to figure out how I wanted to capture it. Luckily, the couple was content to stay & contemplate ... and I still had the composition! ______________________________ Sony A7R2 [single RAW image] Lightroom, TopazLabs Detail

reshare for the Dilettante Photography community Originally shared by Nisah Cheatham This past September, Rachel had a speaking engagement at a resort in Naples, Florida. It was stormy weather throughout the trip, but I think I got some great sky & sunset & cloud shots as the various systems moved by off-shore. This shot was at the 3rd St beach with my favorite 28mm F/2.0. The low clouds and the sunset made for an interesting fire line right at the horizon. ____________________ Sony A7R2 Lightroom, TopazLabs

Reshare for the Dilettante Photography community

Reshare for the Dilettante Photography community Originally shared by Nisah Cheatham I just haven't taken the time to post to this collection, but I do have a lot of newer photos. These days, 75% of my editing is for and on my phone. I do actually process differently if the end goal is Instagram. Here is a single RAW image processed in Lightroom (with a bit more deNoising via TopazLabs plugins). I opted against a tripod and wanted to give a test to the low light/handheld/high ISO capabilities of the Sony A7R2.

Over the years the island had been in continual use for various different reasons…making it a photography fun zone . __________________ This is a single RAW [Sony A7r2] image edited via Lightroom. Reshare for the Dilettante Photography community... It is one of those cases of an shot that I at first dismissed, but remember trying for a certain look...so...years later, I revisited it. Originally shared by Nisah Cheatham Greenwich Steps I love the various public stairs and walkways to help you get around San Francisco. We realized that they are actually on Google Maps, but sometimes finding them is a bit of a hunt. Tim Hagestad and I made it a goal to find and use them to see where they would drop you off. These are located just below Coit Tower. I shot back the way we had come from a low angle to try to capture the trench feeling that you get when you make your way down. ____________________________ 📷 Sony NEX-6 📍 San Francisco, CA, USA 📆 August 2014

Reshare for the Dilettante Photography community... Quick details: Rooster Rock State Park, Oregon Sony A7R2 w/90mm 2.8 (shot wide open) Processed in Lightroom Originally shared by Nisah Cheatham The Columbia River Gorge at sunset This vibrant scene was taken a few weeks ago. We happened to see this brilliant sunset emerging as we were making our way along I-84 toward Portland. When we finally found a place to pull off at Rooster Rock State Park, I then realized that facing away from the sun was even more interesting. Photo details: This picture is a single image that was taken facing east and processed in Lightroom. No colors/gradients were added. In fact, after adjusting for exposure and white balance, the oranges & reds needed to be brought down a bit. I did lighten the shadows to help accentuate the verdant fields in the foreground. As I often do, I focused on a spot about 2/3 of the way out and shot wide open, planning on cropping. _______________________________ Sony A7R2...

Reshare for the Dilettante Photography Community... I tried to make the most of the best shot of this incense because I like the mood. Originally shared by Nisah Cheatham Temple Incense ...on the grounds of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was a spot for reflection amid a throng of tourists. ……………… 📷 Sony A7Rii (28mm F2.0) I had to shoot tight in because there really were told of people. Every shot but this one has too much distraction, so I had to make this one work.

Reshared for the Dilettante Photography community. Originally shared by Nisah Cheatham Chicago River Cut Millions of years of years later, the Chicago River has cut deep into the skyline. Can you imagine!? It used to flow over the top of Marina City. OK Seriously... I cropped this narrow to echo the canyon of skyscrapers. The way the river slices through downtown and all of the cool drawbridge crossings is definitely iconic Chicago . I shot it last September but just found it while looking at my 18-105 shots (because +Alex Hernandez). I had ignored it because it looks like this shot was AEB for HDR. Also, it wasn't too level. Instead, I decided to mess with it to see what it could become. __________________________________________ Sony NEX-6 w/18-105mm F4 G OSS @ 18mm Lightroom and Topaz Details

I thought is was an interesting scene, with everybody on the wrong side of the jetty with their backs to that crazy sky. In the end, we did get to see about 4 little penguins stumbling around on the rocks. Originally shared by Nisah Cheatham St. Kilda Pier waiting for penguins If you are ever in Melbourne, head down to St. Kilda for amazing sunsets, great views of the Melbourne city skyline ...and the tiny penguins. Every evening, these tiny penguins make their way into the rocks for the night and the crowds gather. I don't have any shots of the lil guys because flash photography is not allowed and they are hard to spot in the end. The real key to the endeavor is that they arrive after the sun has set, and there are only a handful of them so its more like a "Where's Waldo" kind of game. I wanted to show the crazy sky-on-fire here, but more importantly, the crowds gathered and waiting, all facing away from the brilliant sunset. It was too crowded for a tripod. If...

Narita is not just a place to have a layover or make a connection.

Originally shared by Nisah Cheatham Narita is not just a place to have a layover or make a connection. It's a cute town with some good food...and a large temple and grounds to wander. I really like it and I if I can i would consider extending a layover to hang out in this city again. I wanted to get a sense of the calmness. The few people here were all caught in their own moment. Almost no talking. Just a lot of finding a place to sit and contemplate, then move on. -- Sony A7Rii Processed with Lightroom

The Bund

The Bund Shanghai This is a great place for amazing urban vistas. I think it's best at night or in the evening as the light show begins. It had been raining all day, and just let up when we got there. The clouds were still moving through and a 5 sec exposure really worked. The Renaissance Shanghai Caohejing Hotel

Originally shared by Nisah Cheatham The Renaissance Shanghai Caohejing Hotel Rainy morning while in Shanghai threatened to curtail my outting to The Bund. I stayed working in the hotel until late afternoon and we decided to go out anyways. The weather improved and in the end, the best time for the Bund is in the evening after a rain. (Photos to come) Since this shot was through the hotel window, I killed the room lights and set a timer so that I could close the drapes behind the camera before the shoot to minimize and glare or reflections. ___________________ 📷 Sony A7Rii 💻 Lightroom

Santa Barbara Dreamin'

Santa Barbara Dreamin' Santa Barbara 2013 I recently found a pair of images that looked like they might work together as a panorama and stitcehd them together in Lightroom. I then finished editing in a combo of Lightroom and Photoshop (w/Topaz Plugins). The tricky part was finding shots with similar enough exposures that they could be blended as seamlessly as possible. ____________________________________________ Sony NEX-6 (E PZ 16-50mm kit lens @50mm) 1/13 and 1/10 shutters, f/36, ISO 100 ____________________________________________ Pixels.com: http://nisah-cheatham.pixels.com/featured/santa-barbara-dreamin-nisah-cheatham.html 500px: https://500px.com/photo/143461135/santa-barbara-dreamin-by-nisah-cheatham ? Strolled around at lunch time yesterday and took some shots.

Originally shared by Nisah Cheatham Strolled around at lunch time yesterday and took some shots. I never do street photography so I have no idea what I'm doing here. In this shot I was hoping to get an L in the shot, but soon realized that westbound trains aren't even visible from my vantage point.
