Udaipur - City Palace (Rajasthan / India, November 2016) With a population of around 600,000 Udaipur is one of the most popular and most frequently visited cities in all of India. In a way this city has it all: Lakes & mountains. Palaces and temples. A colorful Old City and lots of history. Udaipur was founded in 1568 by Maharana Udai Singh II of the Kingdom of Mewar. This was somewhat prompted by the fact that the previous Mewar capital, the city of Chittorgarh, had been sacked by the invading Mughal armies under the leadership of Emperor Akbar the Great. Maharana Singh II probably felt that the geographic surrounding with hills, lakes etc made this area perfect to defend against the upcoming Mughal armies.
