Blue Peafowl (Hamburg, April 2017)

Blue Peafowl (Hamburg, April 2017) The Blue (or Indian) Peafowl (Pavo cristatus), a large and brightly coloured bird, is a species of peafowl native to the Indian subcontinent , but introduced in many other parts of the world. The male, or peacock, is predominantly blue with a fan-like crest of spatula-tipped wire-like feathers and is best known for the long train made up of elongated upper-tail covert feathers which bear colourful eyespots. These stiff feathers are raised into a fan and quivered in a display during courtship. Peahens lack the train, and have a greenish lower neck and duller brown plumage. The Blue Peafowl lives mainly on the ground in open forest or on land under cultivation where they forage for berries, grains but also prey on snakes, lizards, and small rodents (Source: Wikipedia). #animalphotography #birds #birdphotography (Canon EOS 5D, 200 mm, f/5.6, 1/200, ISO 125)

The Monkey and the Mountains (Aravali Range, Rajasthan / India, November 2016)

The Monkey and the Mountains (Aravali Range, Rajasthan / India, November 2016) The Aravali Range separates the Thar Desert in the Northwest from the rest of Rajasthan. While the range is not very high in altitude it forms a kind of barrier against the monsoon rains. The area to the East and Southeast of the range are semi-arid, too but generally more fertile and better watered compared to the desert. The fact that you see a monkey in front of the hills - a holy Gray Langur - is actually not a coincidence. The train I was on while shooting the picture stopped shortly afterwards at a certain spot allowing passengers (many of which were tourists) to feed a whole bunch of Gray Langurs. #rajasthan #naturephotography #animalphotography   #monkeys   (Olympus OM-D E-M10 with a Samyang 12mm, f/2.0 lens)

Monkeys on a Rooftop Observing the Street (Kherwa, Rajasthan / India, November 2016)

Monkeys on a Rooftop Observing the Street (Kherwa, Rajasthan / India, November 2016) Gray Langurs are among the most widespread monkeys on the Indian subcontinent. They are considered as sacred animals, dedicated to the Hindu god Hanuman. This particular group or family is watching the street below, waiting for someone to show up and feed them, or for the opportunity to steal food. Meanwhile, it appears that one of them decided it might be cool to have a cigar. #rajasthan #animalphotography   #monkeys   (Olympus OM-D E-M10, f/7.1, 1/160, 42mm cropped, ISO 200)

Dinnertime For Herons (Hamburg, June 2016)

Dinnertime For Herons (Hamburg, June 2016) At a backwater tide-way of the Elbe River the tide was at its low point when I shot this one. And, as you can see, the herons were getting ready for dinner... #animalphotography #naturephotography
