St. Pauli - Hafenstraße (Hamburg, February 2015)

St. Pauli - Hafenstraße (Hamburg, February 2015) The green bikes were part of the barricade built by squatters and anti - establishment combatants in the mid - 1980ies to save the Hafenstaße squat from being invaded by the police. The riots lasted (on and off) for around ten years. Today the 12 buildings of the Hafenstraße riots are owned by a cooperative administered by the residents. And the bikes of the barricade have been turned into a piece of street art. #hamburg   #hamburgphotographers   #cityphotography

The Sunset, the River and the Fog (Hamburg, February 2015)

The Sunset, the River and the Fog (Hamburg, February 2015) Fotos from an evening ferry boat trip on the Elbe River in Hamburg. Some editing due to the bloody fog. Also, it was f* * cold standing on the boat's sun deck and handling the bloody camera. I could not swear as some kids were hanging around and this made it worse. #hamburg   #hamburgphotographers   #elbe   #nightphotography   #urbanphotography   #photography   #cityscapephotography   #maritime

Queen Victoria Leaving Hamburg (January 2015)

Queen Victoria Leaving Hamburg (January 2015) Early January the QV has been at the Blohm+Voss shipyard in Hamburg for a couple of days. Purpose was the installation of a new environmental technology to clean exhaust gas and thereby reduce emmissions. Currently, Carnival Corporation (QV's ultimate owner) is installing this so called 'scrubber technology' on around 30 of it's cruise ships.  #hamburg   #hamburgphotographers   #schiffsbegrüßungsanlage   #cruises   #cruiseship   #cruiseships   #queenvictoria   #carnivalcruise

CSCL Globe - The World's Largest Ship in Hamburg (January 2015)

CSCL Globe - The World's Largest Ship in Hamburg (January 2015)  With a length of 400m, a beam of about 60m and a capacity of 19,100 TEU (suitable for up to 190 million iPads) the CSCL Globe currently is the largest ship in the world. 60 meters longer than the largest aircraft carrier ever built and about 50 meters longer than the world's largest cruise ship, "Quantum of the Seas". The Globe was constructed by Hyundai Heavy Industries and is owned & operated by China Shipping Container Lines. The ship left Shanghai early December 2014 for her maiden voyage and has made a stopover in Hamburg. By the way: the Globe will be at the industry's pole position only for a very short period of time given that the even larger "MSC Oscar" was inaugurated a couple of days ago...    #hamburg   #hamburgphotographers   #containership   #containershipping   #containerships

Bulk Carrier with Two Tugboats (Hamburg, January 2015)

Bulk Carrier with Two Tugboats (Hamburg, January 2015) This ship entering the port of Hamburg is the Santa Katerina sailing under the flag of Panama. The bulker has a capacity of around 58,100 dwt (deadweight tonnage) and is owned by Meiho Kaiun, a Japanese shipping company. The tug boats are usually used to, among others, help ships maneuvering inside the port.  #hamburgphotographers   #ships   #hamburg

This is a collection of photos I posted during 2014.

This is a collection of photos I posted during 2014. They have all been taken on a pontoon at the Elbe River in the German city of Wedel (just outside the city limits of Hamburg). There is a ship welcome facility which greets all in- and outbound ships to and from the port of Hamburg with the national anthem of the flag they are sailing under.  #hamburgphotographers   #schiffsbegrüßungsanlage   #pontoons   #pontoon   #willkommhöft

Ship Entering the Port of Hamburg During Hurricane (December 2013)

Ship Entering the Port of Hamburg During Hurricane (December 2013) The hurricane approached from the North Atlantic and already had caused storm flood damages at the Scottish Coast and on the North Frisean Islands. For Hamburg, the good news was that the storm was not as severe as expected and that the protection measures worked well. However, for dozens of TV news teams who had prepared to show another big catastrophe live on newsreel, this was a disappointment: The big show just did not happen.    #hamburg   #hamburgphotographers
