I like clarity and the story in this picture. A road makes a good guide line, rare pedestrians on the street create an impression of an end of the working week, may be an hour where all the businesses are closed already and everybody is eating a dinner with his/her family or an early morning, when most of the people have not left their houses yet. What I find a little strange is that due to the processing the sky is very bright, while the colors of the street are quite dark. I do not see any shadows or clouds. As a result I'm missing a sense of time... I'd like to see a color version I think.
Thank you Michael Mossiagin for your comment! As usual, it's very interesting to read your opinion on the photo. I remember it was a cloudy morning (grey weather), so your guess is correct! As the clouds are high, the sky is rather bright and the streets are dark and lack shadows. To help you have a real image of the moment I'll send the original frame.
Personally I like the original version better. The light seems softer, the contrast is not as dramatic as in its monochrome version. As a result you can really say: it is morning. I can see why you make it monochrome: it does not have too many colors, although the red traffic sign and the chimneys and the yellow lantern creates a nice coloring effect. I understand that each shot is made with the certain impression in mind and you might have meant to show something else but these are my "two cents" anyway. Thanks.
