  1. Shooting right into the sun without a filter or any object blocking the direct sun light is very tricky and not always bring the best results. In this particular case the sun simply burned out part of the image. It would be ok if the shape of the sun ball had a clearly round or interesting shape. Besides there are many artifacts in the close proximity to the sun. The above effects can be partially reduced by reducing the highlights (in Adobe Lightroom for example) - which is typically beneficial for capturing the clouds' shapes . Because of the shot direction, the trees appear in deep shadows. Sometimes people are looking for this effect (for instance capturing people silhouettes against the setting sun) but on this shot the shades do not serve this purpose in my opinion. Again, the shadows can be lit up to some degree using editing software. This is all my personal, very humble opinion, which is arguable - of course. Cheers!

Bugger, and I deliberately darkened the trees to highlight the dragons! Yep, could have been better with a polarizing filter, & I am shooting in jpeg at the moment, not by choice. Processed in Picasa; got Lightroom but haven't got past loading a library, it will happen

  3. I hate my soapbox, but I must again get atop it and say that had it been a raw image I could have turned it inside out, if it had been my inclination. However, JPG is much more limited in its breadth of morphing. So, whenever it is possible, shoot raw. And if your camera wont do RAW, get another that can. I have not bought a JPG only camera since my Mavica.

  4. Oshi Shikigami I have "lost" 3 cameras, all RAW capable, including a Canon 5D Mark III. Can't afford to replace them, so am working with my brother's Fuji whilst trying to get cameras back. I hear you.

  5. I understand well over 100%.
I remember the days, when I had to choose, if I were to buy a roll of film, or buy a meal. I dare say the film usually won...
