My first time of trying focus stacking was 2 yrs ago, it turned out so bad that I was never going to try it again, well  my second time focus stacking was today - Turned out in focus, but light and shadows are crap - need to try for a 3rd time :)

  1. You have extraordinary range and you have delicate delineation both! Exposure setting can be problematical at best. What I find works best is:

I make real sure I don't over expose any of it. As highlight details are irretrievably lost then. I can brig shadow details up some if they are not exposed enough. So expose for the hilights. Then work with it in pos processing adjusting dark and light points as able and if you have it , use gamma adjustments to get as much detail as possible.

In some instances a flash will help bring up the shadows, and not do much with sun blasted highlights. That is a whole story in itself though, lots to consider and try.

Best of luck with it. Know some shots, just wont work, with what we have to work with. Maybe in the future?  :-)

  2. Oshi Shikigami I used my speedlite flash with these shots, since I am indoors, and just with normal lights in ceiling, but I need to think this a little bit more how I will do it again, I guess having the flash little further away, or just pick another kind of subject that the flash can not make so much shadows on :) Thanks you very much for your tips , they are always very welcome and so much appreciated :)
