In the end, we did get to see about 4 little penguins stumbling around on the rocks.

St. Kilda Pier
waiting for penguins
If you are ever in Melbourne, head down to St. Kilda for amazing sunsets, great views of the Melbourne city skyline ...and the tiny penguins.
Every evening, these tiny penguins make their way into the rocks for the night and the crowds gather. I don't have any shots of the lil guys because flash photography is not allowed and they are hard to spot in the end. The real key to the endeavor is that they arrive after the sun has set, and there are only a handful of them so its more like a "Where's Waldo" kind of game.
I wanted to show the crazy sky-on-fire here, but more importantly, the crowds gathered and waiting, all facing away from the brilliant sunset. It was too crowded for a tripod. If I had to shoot it again, I would likt eo see what an even wider shot would look like. To the far right, through the ship's masts, the Melbourne skyline is quite impressive.
