Hi.

Hi. I need your brutally honest opinion on which photo I should use for my LinkedIn profile and my pond5 artist page. My issues

1. Portraits should be in 3:4 format but majority of websites these days require a square portrait. How to fit a rectangle into a square placeholder?

2. I look crap, especially in colour

I'd appreciate your critique and advice. Thanks

  1. My preference is the small single color one. You might find a different color, if you wish a toned look, will do better? The problem I think with theses it is "sort of close" to a skin tone. But it is far enough off, to look disturbing. Either get a bit closer to a skin tone, or something way off. Not sort of close.

On a side note, compositional, I think if you flipped the image left to right, it would be a better lead-in to the text that usually sits off to the right or lower right of the picture. At lest try it and see if it looks OK?

I often have issues with the aspect ratio of a photo, as well. But, I have found that the same image can be 'stretched' in either vertical or horizontal a fair bit before it starts to look "wrong". Portraits are more sensitive than most other shots, but you are working with 3:4 verses 1:1, and I suspicion you could stretch for that amount.

Otherwise, just include enough white on the edge or add it, to fit format.

Hope this helps. Good luck!  :-)

  2. I really like the position of your body the one on the right side in the duo shots. However  would like to see more of it. I would not choose the color pink tone. Unless you want to send a feminine message to a business crowd.  My humble opinion.  LinkedIn  is a very business oriented connection site, even for the artists. The only way I see that tone, maybe if you are aiming to connect with some pop art photo publications or art galleries.
PS: If you need help, I can, except next week, I will be swamped with work.
