Seeking for a tripod.

Seeking for a tripod.

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for new, not overly expensive (not too much above 100 bucks) tripod. It needs to be sturdy but light, with a good ball head.
Most famous brands sell their products for a significantly higher prices while I am not familiar enough with smaller brands to trust their products. Could you - perhaps - suggest anything? To make a discussion simpler, lets narrow the inquiry farther. What do you think about this one?

Thank you in advance,

  1. You might find a real expensive tripod used for a real reasonable price?

Most all cheap ones, are poor support at best, and risky to camera equipment too.

  2. Oshi Shikigami I'm searching for different options. Any particular brands you prefer? I sort of like Manfrotto BeFree... May be I will try to find it used. No luck so far...

  4. Pauli PPariah thank you. it is an auction, taking the postage into, account - very likely the final price will be similar to the regular one...

  5. Pauli PPariah I have an aluminium tripod with a panning head, more suitable for video shooting. Recently I was shooting the rising sun on the lake and the surface around the lake was very uneven. I straggled so much positioning my camera, I decided to change the tripod. Ideally I want something I can easily put into my luggage, when I'm travelling.

  6. I have been using Bogan (Manfrotto) most of the time myself. You can get a huge number of configurations, and dozens of ball heads.

If you like lightweight, that will not kill you camera by falling apart, the Leitz Tiltall is solid but light. Gitzo is another solid tripod brand.

Always check how the legs are held in place. most button or leaver types, soon wear out, and you cannot tighten it securely any more. Although having lots of sections can mean a shorter storage, they are never as strong, and tend to slip when you extend them out.

One thing to consider is it's ability to mount a strap. Often I will sling one over my shoulder to carry, a lot better than by hand. Also consider one that mounts a trolly too. If you do studio work at all, it is so much easy to use one of these.

  7. I use a Manfrotto 190, sturdy & comes with carry bag that hangs nicely over the shoulder
