Closing out the Textures from 3/16-3/23:

Tough tough call!  Like previous moderators, I had to review the selections multiple times to narrow the field.  I'm not real technical on this, so I looked for texture (the contest!), composition, and clarity.

The tree from Oshi Shikigami :

Everywhere you look, details pop from the capture.  The black highlights of the tree work nicely against the lighter areas and white sky.  The ground cover is also holding its own against the massive branches.

The man from Hera Bell :

Such intensity with the tacks, subject's face, and the pitch black backdrop.  His posture and position are a slight tease to the viewer.

The wreath from Bart Kpx :

The subject fills the frame and provides various types of textures.  There is a blur to the outer rim, adding softness to the B&W processing.

Thanks to everyone that participated!

  5. I am most grateful I took this shot when I did. As, no longer than two weeks after shooting it, A construction company moved in to the lot immediately behind this tree (within feet!) and started to rip out ALL the natural growth behind this tree.

It now is a construction site, bursting with all sorts of heavy equipment, constantly shuffling dirt around, and having ALL the trees and undergrowth removed! So very, very, sad to see.

But, I at least documented it when it was natural. I have that...

  8. Oshi Shikigami Your shot was my favorite Oashi.
I am not after winning contests, I love sharing. I am sometimes wondering should I stop participating and let others take stage?
    Congratulations to everyone who participated.

  9. Hera Bell, Thanks! I have had the same thoughts. I put mine out to (hopefully) encourage or inspire others to participate. I hope that is what is done, and not some form of intimidation, or frustration? What do you think?

  10. Oshi Shikigami Oshi I actually don't like winning. Truth to be told. Unless I enter some competitions where I compete against some of the peers I look upon. Even there I enter not to win but to see where I will be rated by the jury. I am more curious to analyze why the jury picked  what they have picked.
However I seek to inspire, I LOVE sharing.
I have no problem to get exempted when I enter competitions in our group.

  12. Matthew Woodall Thank you Matthew, but I truly feel guilty every time  I win. From now on when I participate please don't consider my competition entries  as competition pieces.
