Particularly characteristic of the fountain is the colorful mosaic in its basin, by the artist Hannes Scherling (1922-1997). Four pictures - detailed from pressed glass elements and high-quality glass stones, so-called Smaltes, show central scenes of the Nibelungenlied. At first in the studio mirrored on a temporary carrier applied, the mosaic in consequence was inserted into the well.
