Well, Building a stereo Tube amplifier, was a lot quicker than I had thought.

Well, Building a stereo Tube amplifier, was a lot quicker than I had thought. It seems the skills I had not really been using for nearly fifty years, was fairly intact. It went together with no explosions or even smoke. :-)

There are eleven tubes, two boards, three transformers, and many dozen capacitors, resisters, and such. Ironically, I attached my iPod, to supply sound to test. It honestly sounded quite good. A real richness that is hard to describe accurately.

In the days that everything has been made digital, the last holdouts are those who shoot photos with film, and those who listen to tube amplifiers. Although there certainly is a lot of hype in all corners, There is no denying that analog is not the same as digital. If this is good or bad, depends on the person.

  1. ...shades of the 50's, when my father would take our FM radio to the shop for a new tube instead of throwing it out (or to put it gently "recycling") the way we do with our electronics today.

  2. Until the '70s our family had our own tube tester, at home. We had so many tube fired devices, it was easier to test at home, than to rely on someone else testing them for us. :-)

  3. Haven't seen a tube since I was a teenager half a century ago & fell in love with music, I can only imagine the fabulous sound (as I listen to MixCloud on my phone while checking these out on a 23" monitor full-screen, ironic)
