Good day everybody

Good day everybody,

During a recent post I mentioned in a comment to Olav de With that I seem to be entering the "dark" period of finding my personal voice in photographic expression.

Let it be known that in many respects I'm a perfectionist and one of the main questions I always ask is, "is my final image output a reflection of the reality I experienced".

I'm also a creative and I'm finding more and more that I don't particularly like my own current work and I am experiencing a lot of tension regarding this at the moment.

The best way I can explain it is like being stuck in mud and you can see dry land a short distance off. Behind me is also perfectly good, dry and warm land and I have waded into the muck to reach creative bliss on the other side. What I left behind represents the beginning stages of learning the art of photography, the apertures, exposure, shutter speeds and the like. The dry land ahead represents me as an artist with my own voice and the mud the current state of affairs.

Once one learns the technical stuff, just pressing the shutter doesn't matter any more. Photography becomes more, you want it to be more and then the real struggle begins and I'm well and truly in it!

Over the next few days I may elaborate on the above and I hope you will journey with me and who knows, maybe even join me in the mud. The more the merrier I say!

So without further adieu, welcome to my expressions.........

  1. Know what you are going through is common to many, myself included.

Know it is temporary, and will eventually go away.

Know that you have many friends here, that care about you, and your work.

Know that you are your own worst critic, and many others are mesmerized by most of your shots!

Know you really should never 'toss in the towel', let it rest if you have to.

Know you can chat with us about it any time.

    :-)
