  1. A tree trunk has an interesting texture. I think you may want to show it more clearly (say - by boosting clarity). Colors seem a bit over-saturated to me. I'd add lightening a little and try decreasing contrast a bit. Applying different degrees of vignetting could be another idea I'd try.IMHO

  2. It boarders on surreal. So it depends on what you want in the image. Michael Mossiagin is correct, if you want a completely realistic look. On the other hand, if you wish a more fairytale look, you could punch up the color even more. Just depends on what you wish to convey.
