The Candle and a Castle (Kronberg im Taunus, July 2015)

The Candle and a Castle (Kronberg im Taunus, July 2015)

Kronberg Castle was built at around 1220 and served as home for the local knights. It became quite famous in 1389 when the knights of Kronberg declared war on the much bigger city of Frankfurt close-by. In the Battle of Eschborn the greater knights force from Frankfurt surprisingly was defeated by the smaller Kronberg army (with a little help from its friends). For a long time this defeat was perceived by the Frankfurters as a big shame. The story is told in Kronberg that during battle one of the knights of Kronberg lost his horse, and because he did not manage to get a replacement horse, he had to return to battle on a donkey. Legend has it that it was the unearthy noise the donkey made in battle that made the Frankfurt army run...

About the history of the Candle less is known. Most likely it was manufactured in an unknown production facility somewhere in South East Asia, followed by transport in a 40 feet container box by ship to Hamburg and then by railway and/or truck to a local DIY.
