The Monkey and the Mountains (Aravali Range, Rajasthan / India, November 2016)
The Aravali Range separates the Thar Desert in the Northwest from the rest of Rajasthan. While the range is not very high in altitude it forms a kind of barrier against the monsoon rains. The area to the East and Southeast of the range are semi-arid, too but generally more fertile and better watered compared to the desert.
The fact that you see a monkey in front of the hills - a holy Gray Langur - is actually not a coincidence. The train I was on while shooting the picture stopped shortly afterwards at a certain spot allowing passengers (many of which were tourists) to feed a whole bunch of Gray Langurs.
