SnowShadows and another of my cell phone experiments [bit.ly/SunTraces ] depend on very special climatic conditions. Strong spring sun, cold ground temperatures and air temperatures at freezing or just below combine to produce fleeting opportunities for photography. I am reminded here of an observation from one of my painter acquaintances, that all shadows on earth are actually shades of blue.
