Last time I got valuable comments and tips so I looked at my pictures in more critical way. I also tried to do better post production. This time I have choosen picture with objects in foreground to show more depth. I also have tried to make it brighter and more contrast. Technical parameters: shooted in RAW, olympus em-10, kit lens, iso 200, f 7.1, 1/250 s, 18mm, postproduction in RawTherapee + Gimp (on Linux)
What do you think ? What should be changed in composition and in post production ?
This shot has perhaps, several slightly different interpretations, that could come from the same exposure. And, agin, it is not a matter or right or wrong, only the vision that is wished to be presented.
ReplyDeleteWhat I see here, is a modern 'tourist tease' shot. By that I mean it is done as to entice people to go to the same place and see a fantastic view. The type you would see in the glossy travel magazines. In that execution, it was done most excellent. And I would not change a thing. Composition contrast and saturation all harmonize.
By darkening the clouds and sky a bit you could make it look more ominous, more impressive. You could go to B&W use a 'red' filter and really make it look dramatic. You could tweak the colors some to make it look like dusk, or dawn. The fact is there are a lot of "types" of photos you could get out of this with enough editing.
However, do what pleases you. You know enough to try some experimenting, if you wish. And have fun with this. And you might even want to print this one, to be displayed? :-)
Oshi Shikigami Thank you very much for you comments. It is really nice to hear from you that my photo is fine. It was my intention to show real view exactly in the same way that I saw it that day. And you are right, it should tease people to visit Tatra mountains.
ReplyDeleteIt is really interesting for me what you have written about different directions of editing. Photo edition is something completely new for me and I can't see what I can do. Now I try to understand how to handle with RAW files in RawTherapee and how to do simple image manipulation in Gimp (levels, unsharp mask, wavelet denoise filter, B&W). Layers, mask and other advanced techniques are completely unknown for me and even if I try final effects are terrible :-). I'll try to change the mood of this picture I think it will be great opportunity to learn photo editing.
I think the quality if too poor to print this photo. I can't edit photo without losing quality :-(
It is really great to be part of this community.
The thing with editing a RAW image, is that you can always go back to the way it was, without loosing any quality. If you edit JPG too much, it will degrade, even noticeable. So you can play all you want and not worry about running you image with RAW. That also plus you can do more intense and subtle adjustments with RAW. :-)
