  1. Excellent series of "Looks" presented from a single shot. :-) Always more that one way to look at things, well stated. Is a style necessary, important, or a disadvantage? Both for commercial and for personal work. Of course artists, writers, and even performers ask this as well.

I have on occasion wondered about a photographer having a style. And it leads me to wonder if I have a "style" with my works? Is there a sentence or two that could state it accurately?

I think this might be difficult for many photographers to tell , as they tend to be so close to their own work! So I would dearly love to have a 'reed' from someone who could be more objective, but skilled enough to recognize such things. :-)

  2. I just added to the blog another example. I find that there are too many Photoshop actions being marketed out there. And many photographers are falling victim to imitate the IN trends.
I think the masters have a signature style. Demarchelier, David Hamilton, Karsh,David Lachapelle etc etc.

  3. I agree with you on that. Making every shot look "old", is not a style. It is boring!

That is why I am leery of someone having a style, as it is often more of a fashion of the day statement, than a display of talent. And with phone cameras one click and make it look like 'this', (whatever this is), degrades any serious creative actions to just dialing in a style button.

  4. Editing style is not a signature style. More and more people are confusing both elements.
    Like the HDR thing.

  5. These definitely do display a definable style. I am sure there will be many that do, and do not, like these very much, as they would like or not the specifics of the style. Either way they exhibit great talent.
