Hello everybody,
Is that a freight train coming down the line, o' apologies its 2016!
Man, where has 2015 gone!?
Anyway, life is happening at a ferocious pace and due to this on top of the fact that we're having one of the hottest, driest seasons in history we're not running much with the pups.
Thankfully we are blessed with a fenced servitude behind our complex and this offers an opportunity to "let the dogs out" so to speak.
So here are some images of Lucky, Kyza and Jack enjoying some time out.
I particularly like the image of Jack and the way the shadows contribute some drama to the image.
I always shoot manually but when the pups move so quickly between light and shadow I'm unable to compensate for the changes in exposure. I thus started using auto ISO and my keeper rate improved dramatically.
During the last outing I found that in high contrast situations the evaluative metering on my 70D blew the highlights out due to the fact that shadows formed a large part of the frame.
I then started using spot metering while keeping Jack in the middle of the frame. He was exposed correctly and the shadows were kept nice and dark.
Seeing the image on the LCD, I immediately liked it and I am starting to understand the opinion of some photographers that shadows are very important in images.
My new year resolutions are piling up but photographically I'm going to focus on learning composition and letting shadows in a bit more.
What are your resolutions going to be?
BTW I wish you all a wonderful festive season and a brilliantly productive 2016.

The year of the tongue!
ReplyDeleteDylan van Graan, Those all are fantastic captures! May you, and all of us grow in skills and appreciation in our chose craft of photography, this coming year.
ReplyDeleteAnimal pictures are always challenging. You have been able to compile equipment and techniques, to be able to capture them in action well. As you know, no matter how skilled we are, it takes a lot of shooting to arrive on a few "keepers'. :-)
I wish you a break in the weather. I at least of the multitude here, have enjoyed a warmer winter. But I know I am the exception! But as you have stated, it also has impact on our animal friends.
I wish you and yours, all the best in the new year. Happy Christmas! :-)
Thank you very much Oshi Shikigami, you have helped me a lot this past year and I have greatly appreciated your input.
ReplyDeleteNext year will be the year of creative growth, I can almost feel it :)
Agreed on the weather, I much prefer cooler climes!
May 2016 be the best one you have ever had!!!
Very much so Pauli PPariah, they get even longer! :))
